Day 15 – Eco Solar Living in Northern California

Well, sleep eluded me and I woke up very late and groggy. Maybe it was too much excitement from yesterday?
Not the best way to begin a day. Han served me a much needed cup of coffee, I dressed, then we began the tedious job of packing the car.
It was sad to say goodbye to the two dogs Troika and Charro, who also looked sad as we left. I do so wonder what goes on in those precious little doggy brains?

Today is Easter and it does feel odd not spending it with family. Much texting was going on between us but obviously it’s just not the same but at least we were in touch with one another.

We had our “Easter Lunch” at Amy’s Drive Thru restaurant. We did not know until we were inside that it was exclusively vegetarian and vegan, which made me completely happy. Han throughly enjoyed his meal though as I did, and we also fell in love with the “old school” interior. They even make their own soda’s. I was smitten and began taking pics and checking out for more “Amy’s” along our route but this is THE only one. I wish them the best of luck in turning this into a franchise, as I really feel they are sitting on a gold mine. They even have Eco-friendly paper straws. How cool is that?
One other mention is that one of my dearest friends is named Amy and she is a vegan. I like unusual coincidences like that. Makes it all the more meaningful. “By the way, a shout out to Amy and I miss you girl.”

After lunch I began feeling like my old self and we continued on towards our destination of Eureka, CA.
It took us awhile, as I was tempted too many times to pull the car over to take pictures, gaze at the coastal scenes, water, waves, beaches, beginning of the redwoods and more rocks to gather for my grandson “Liam.”
One of our most intriguing and learning visits was at an Eco Center called “Real Goods.” You will want to take your time to read, learn and see all they have to offer. It will completely put you into a mellow mood and I could almost feel myself mentally skipping through a field of flowers. Relaxing and mind altering…
I loved how they repurposed the tiled walls in the restrooms from toilet tank covers. This is just one example of their ingenuity in recycling.
The Solar Living Center is one of Northern California’s top tourist destinations, hosting over 150,000 visitors every year and is open year round. There were very few people there when we visited, but that is probably the time of the season.
They have cabins to rent and play areas for the children. Every member of the family will, no doubt, enjoy stopping here and taking in the cool vibe. Just let it roll over you.
We finally arrived at our hotel in Eureka, found the town instantly distasteful and it felt unsafe. Just some really bad vibes were reaching out. Had another restless night because the hotel is situated between two major highways, was very noisy and generally uncomfortable area that I did not want to leave the room once we got there so I ate peanut butter for dinner right off the spoon.
Travel tip: Choose another town to stay in.
(By the way, I was correct in my intuition of bad vibes because we google searched the town the next day and Eureka tops the crime chart as #2 in the state of California.)
