Travel Hint: If you are staying anywhere in the center of town, I suggest calling for a porter to retrieve your luggage and meet you at the people mover. Cost Euro 20.00, but saves your back and offers a relaxing way to depart the island. You don’t want to push or pull your luggage over all the bridges before reaching Piazzale Roma, the major gateway off.
We were a bit delayed by a protest group “protesting the war” and the porters waited for us. It was interesting to watch the protest and could not agree with their grieve more. They were followed up by approximately 30 police officers.
The porters were very kind and even brought our suitcases across the street.
Also while walking towards the exit, we saw two police officers shooting radar at boats going by. Yes, they give out tickets for boats going too fast on the Canal Grande and they seem to really enjoy it.
This Flixbus bus trip had a very impatient, aggressive, almost sociopathic driver. He had no qualms in blaring his horn at others to move them out of his way or tailgating way too close. I mistakenly chose our seats in the very front, so had full view of his tantrum style driving. I was thankful we made it without incident. Bus drivers with road rage are funny but only if they get you there safely. With each new driver comes a new and less than stellar experience.
I am pretty sure he was in a hurry before he even began the trip, because two people came running for the bus as he was pulling away from the parking area and he just waved at them and kept going. However, cannot fault him for this as it clearly explains on tickets to arrive 15 minutes ahead of departure time.
Arrived at a grungy Lampugnano bus/metro station in Milan near San Siro Stadium, and took a taxi to the hotel. The hotel is by far the best one we have stayed at since arriving in Italy, yet less than half the cost of all previous ones. We have a perfect room, enough space, bathroom is well equipped, TV is actually a size you can see without a magnifier, staff is best yet, entire hotel is clean, multiple public areas to relax in and area is very quiet.
Oh and attached to it is the cutest 50’s style diner that we have ever seen called American Graffiti. The food is quite palatable, generous portions and reasonably priced.
