The trip from Whitehall south turned morbidly sad through Ohio. We have now traveled thousands of miles, on many different roads across the US and never have we seen so many dead deer and other evidence of roadkill, than we saw in Ohio. It seemed like at least every other mile there was a dead deer and every half a mile a dead possum or skunk or squirrel. So many deer in fact that I purchased deer horn alerts off Amazon for our friends Amy and Jeff to place on their vehicles. We have them on our car and had not even close calls through many wild life areas. But sometimes in the high plains areas of Wyoming we actually saw animals in the distance lift their heads to look around. Are they hearing the horns? I don’t know but it certainly cannot hurt to install these simple, inexpensive and possibly life saving devices. You can get them at http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Accessories-17381-Chrome-Alert/dp/B000BO71UC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462897814&sr=8-1&keywords=deer+horn+alerts
The last part of our journey took us through Ohio’s Lakeside country to avoid Interstate road construction. Since coming out of the mountains we noticed an big increase in roadway construction on account of winter damage. I guess they only have a short window to repair the road surfaces before the next winter arrives here up north, but I do wonder why they have to set off stretches of 10 miles and more while there is no construction crew in sight. Very obstructive for the traffic flow.
By the way, talking about traffic flow, I noticed that Ohio drivers stay mostly within the speed limits, are much more courteous, use their blinkers and are in general the most alert drivers we have witnessed on the road. Could it be because of the very obvious police presence on the roads??
I was so thrilled to see Amy. She is one of my dearest friends and it is the first time visiting her home town of Willoughby OH. Jeff arrived home shortly after we got there and played a quick catch up, showed us around, unpacked some stuff then headed into Cleveland for a short tour and delicious dinner at their favorite restaurant “Town Hall”. http://www.townhallohiocity.com
Part of this favoritism is Jeff’s love for the brewskis, as they have a huge variety, so much that Han, who hardly ever drinks beer, saw and ordered a childhood favorite from Cologne Germany, called Koelsch, which he enjoyed much.
We had the privilege of having the most darling sweet waitress in the restaurant take care of us. She was informative, enjoyable, helpful and had the most bubbly personality. Her name is Alexandra Joy, so if you ever visit, ask for her because you will enjoy your meal all the more.
Thank you Amy and Jeff for treating us out. Not only was the food fantastic, as always you were the perfect enjoyable company.
After dinner we walked over to the most famous ice-cream shop in Cleveland called Mitchell’s Ice Cream. Just walking in, the smell envelopes you and makes your mouth water. Every ice-cream is made from scratch on the premises and you are able to watch as they create the masterpieces. We were told that the line is always somewhat long, but we were waited on fairly quickly. Han and I both were too full to eat another spec, so Amy gave us a bite of hers and it truly is the most divine ice-cream either one of us has ever tasted. We loved the feel of the place and workers and customers were all so dang happy. http://mitchellshomemade.com
Afterwards we left the big city lights behind us and made our way back to the small quaint town of Willoughby.
We are all Apple product driven people, so we jumped on the internet when we got home and chatted while we sat around the table catching up on emails, Facebook and such.
I finally received the email results from the testing facility in the UK for food and environmental intolerances. For know the results have turned my life upside down a bit. I already knew that I was lactose intolerant and allergic to cottonwood tree, and those two items were on the list. I sadly realized that almost everything I ate tonight was on the list, hence the tummy not feeling like eating ice-cream.
We relaxed, chatted some more then slowly made our way to bed. Plans were to continue on the road after tomorrow’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame visit, but that changed during the course of the day.
I could easily live in Amy’s home. Such a calm, warm home and she decorated it so perfectly that I would not change a thing, but I DID NOT go to the basement because I was told it was scary and I don’t do scary well. LOL
