Day 2 – Between Alabama and the Mississippi

Mississippi StatelineDay 2 – 03/14/16
Hotel Hint: if at all possible choose a room on the top floor, west side of the hotel with two beds.
Two beds may not be the most romantic of ideas, you can always snuggle when you want, then
climb in your own bed and try to get a great nights sleep. Traveling is difficult enough without being
sleep deprived, so give it a chance.
Also to drown out excessive noise of neighbors, elevators or anything disruptive to sleep, I got a sound machine for Christmas, it is amazing and really does the job. (worth every penny) You can find it at:

Diet Tip: choose mindfully from the breakfast choices that the hotel has to offer, eat a small amount, then take some fruit, yogurt or boiled eggs to snack on later before lunch to scare away the idea of stopping for some quick fast
food. Get rid of the temptation if at all possible.
Emergency Kit: I always pack a plastic tub full with a car kit, tape, scissors, some first aid, blankets, bungee cords, zip ties, flashlight and etc. Anything that I feel we may need in a pinch.
Today it came in handy because as I was driving, I looked out the right mirror and I saw something flapping in the wind.
I pulled over and we saw part of the rear bumper was coming unattached, thank goodness we did not lose it because a screw had wiggled out. I bungeed through the screw hole of the piece and tied it to the roof rack.
Han then typed “Nissan” in the GPS, we pulled into Nissan Paul Barnett in Brookhaven shortly thereafter, they were so very nice, efficient, replaced the screw immediately at no charge and we were back on the road in less than 10 minutes.
Another two tips for the road: GPS systems are a must-have and carry water on board.
It has been so much less stressful and more interesting taking the less traveled roads in each state.
If you want to have some fun, find US-84 between Andalusia AL until the MS border, and cut loose.
Limited traffic, HUGE rolling hills, large dips, sharp curves and bridges create your own personal exciting
roller coaster. (depending upon how fast you are going of course…Woo-Weeeeeee)

We rolled into frontier town Natchez MS, booked a room at the Natchez Grand Hotel then went strolling through the town. Most everything was closed due to the time of day, but we still had fun.
The local pharmacy runs itself like a general store more than just a pharmacy. They sell seedlings and seeds. The seedlings are sitting on the floor and every nook and cranny they could fill with them. I loved the old style charm of it.
There is much to explore and I cannot wait to go back for a longer visit.
I have decided to add “Bike the Natchez Trail” to my bucket list, so I have already purchased a map and book.
I asked my oldest daughter and a friend (and respective husbands) if they were interested in begin planning for a trip some time in early September. Super psyched to experience this.
Natchez Grand Hotel is quite nice with lovely decor, upscale amenities, oh so comfortable beds, right on the river
with stunning views and is fairly quiet unless you happen to be next door to some busy, busy rabbits. This is where the sound machine really comes in handy.
The oddity about the hotel were the low sitting toilets. I am 5’2 and they were still quite the squat to take potty breaks.
It made me giggle each time at how weird it was to use them.
