Leaving Louisiana in the Rearview Mirror

Sunset in DestinTHURSDAY 02/18/16
Woke up this morning and once again began the chore of packing the car for another destination. Hugged the grand kids bye, gave the doggies some pats on the head then headed out for Destin FL.

Our lunch stop was at Piccadilly’s. Besides the fact that some of my foodie friends had been suggesting it to me, I remember dining at a Piccadilly in Gainesville with good memories. Both memories and friends were absolutely correct. I was quite surprised by the quality and taste of a cafeteria style restaurant. Han raved about the fish. Continue reading

A Short Week Near Baton Rouge

Three horses

Monday: 02/15/16

Monday was so stormy. Phone alerts were going off, thunder and lightening, tornado watches and nervous dogs topped the chaos.

Yes, you may add me to the nervous bunch of animals. It did not let up for quite some time. Tripp and I bonded over today’s storm, since we were reliant on each other company while cowering.

The front and back yard is now a lake. Maranda came home from her job at a local electrical service company and cooked up shrimp chowder with garlic bread. My daughter is one excellent cook. Continue reading

Meet a real life Dr. Doolittle

DSC_0228Sunday, Valentine’s Day 2016 – Maranda (my eldest child) is a real life Dr.Doolittle. She has had a zoo of animals all her adult life and lately has been participating in endurance races with her horses. I wanted to spend some time with her and talk about her passion of horses, so I watched as she tried to teach patience to the new young four year old Arab.

Mmmm….I will not be doing that again! I simply do not know how to describe it, but it was much more intense than expected, and I was left crying my eyes out because I am overly sensitive to any beings suffering, even if it is necessary for training them correctly. Continue reading

Luzianne, Going a Bit More Inland

Baton RougeFrom Rowdy to Rest, we love both in the right measures.

Got up this morning to the smell of breakfast. Brian was a busy bee in the kitchen. My plate was laden down with eggs, bacon and toast. This vegetarian was sorely tempted to eat the bacon because it smelled “oh so good” but I refrained and Han happily removed it from my plate. lol

We visited a little while longer, packed the car, bunches of hugs later then Willie Nelson’s song began playing in my head “On The Road Again”, no not really, but it sure should be our theme song at this time. Continue reading

And Then There is French Quarter

leathervoodooOn Friday it was Brian’s turn today to play hooky and he took us to French Quarters and the famous Bourbon and Canal Streets.
We had a yummy breakfast at Cafe Pontallsa which is located just caddy corner to the front of the Catholic Cathedral, to your left if standing facing the cathedral. Brian and many born and raised Nolans are in uproar that the city has decided to remove 4 confederate statues, they call a “perversion of history”, dealing with civil war and slavery issues. Just wondering if they will abandon the Christopher Columbus perversion as well.
In any case I had “crab cakes benedict” accompanied by a mimosa and oh my, it may have been one of the best breakfasts ever, so I highly suggest you try it if you get the chance.
