April 24 – Re-Creating More Memories From Previous Lovely Ones

Bill MurrayWe were able to be lazy and take our sweet time in the morning because our next stop was only about 90 minutes away. We are re-visiting Woodstock IL, where we were married 10 years ago in May. Han and I kept trying to get it right with others and we felt we finally did when we met each other, so we married in the gazebo where they filmed Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. We loved the idea and figured it fitting. I even purchased my gown in Woodstock.

We had our reception and honeymoon at an outstanding B&B called Alexandria House and loved every second of our festivities. The innkeeper was exceptional and it was all a fairy tale beginning to a fun interesting life together.

Our first stop was the B&B. Sadly it is no longer a B&B and the innkeeper “Dot” has since moved to Florida to live with her son. She was uniquely eccentric who had lived an amazing full life and I hope it continues for many more years. We chatted with the present home owner and she answered all our questions. She was very nice, sitting on the steps of the front porch with her doggie snoozing beside her. What a lovely small town scene.

We drove into the adorable small town square. It looked fairly much the same, however the dress store has also closed.

We asked a lovely couple if they would take some pictures of us in the gazebo. Ten years is but a blink, but I feel as if we have shoved about 30 years of living into our 10. I am looking forward to the next 10.

We lunched at our previous chosen little eatery called “Papa G’s” and it was delicious as all the other times we were there a decade ago.

I wanted to walk around the square, take some pics, buy some candy for friends, get some more postcards and walk through the park one more time. Han sat quietly in the car since his knee is getting in his way. Oh he is not enjoying this at all and I surely don’t blame him. He needs to see a doctor soon.

We drove into Lake Geneva, which was one of my favorite places to take day trips to when I lived in Wisconsin and thankfully the mom and pop hotel I had previously reserved was EXCEPTIONAL. I have learned that you can never be too sure but sometimes you get pleasantly surprised. So clean, sweet people, thankfully quiet and I honestly (the hotel snob) could not have been happier with our “motel”. http://www.genevawells.com

After we unpacked and got things situated, I went into Lake Geneva to stir up old memories and of course buy postcards. It was near as much fun being by myself, but who knows when we will get back there. I did not stay gone too long. When I got back, we decided to eat a simple meal at Culver’s, then turn in for the evening.

I love revisiting places that feel like home or where I have made great memories. It creates a peaceful little hammock for your heart to recline in. Yep, that is exactly what it is…
