Cabin Fever…The Struggle is Real

Book DeocrationsWe’re finding that the cabin fever in cold winter times is a real struggle. Even if the house is pretty sizable, put 5 adults and three little people in it and it becomes tight, stuffy quarters.

Got up this morning dazed completely out, due to the heater making the most awful loud banging noises beginning at 2:22am and would not stop. Woke Greg up (owner of home) and he turned it off until someone could check it out this morning. Was very difficult to get back to sleep. Have been a little off all day, even after two cups of coffee.

Winter hint of the day: look down before stepping out of vehicle, off a curb or out a door. Ice is lurking to trip you up. Be alert.

I have stayed upright so far. : )

My daughter and I took time off from the rest of the clan, to help cure some cabin fever.

Went to Factory Surplus Sales in Montague, MI where I purchased some BOGS boots for outdoor activities in the snow and/or water and some winter gloves. I purchased both items in the kids section, so the prices are much less. If you wear size 7 in women’s shoes, then you would wear a size 5 in kids with a savings of 20.00 just for the boots.

I love being able to find deals.

The entire store has surplus prices.

Lunch at Gary’s Restaurant, we both had the fried cod special, but it created major stomach issues later. Could have been me, could have been the grease, but will not be eating this again.

Colby’s Hokey Pokey store, where you “find the unexpected” from scarves, bedpan guitar, antiques, letters made from books, retro furniture to chalk paint and more. We purchased two of the softest scarves either of us have ever felt. There was SO much too see and ponder, that we will need to schedule another visit.

Then we went next door to the The General Store, which is run by two sweet little ladies, and throughly enjoyed roaming around the two-story antique building. The store has an vintage soda box, an antique cash register and many more, still in use, general store equipment. We purchased two pottery coffee mugs for the bride and groom tomorrow, rock candy, stuffed brightly colored animals, pickled asparagus to name a few. The store was completely packed to the brim, yet still felt open and spacious, making for an enjoyable shopping experience.

The nicest thing were the two women who worked there. Thanks so much to them.

Let’s be honest, when traveling, ones stomach is not always our friend or we don’t treat it as such. Eating fried fish and fries was most certainly not agreeable with my stomach today. Treating the General Stores restroom like a turnstile, in between trying to have fun shopping, was a bit difficult. The ladies were exceptionally nice and understanding and even gave me a Coke to help calm my tummy. I am just in love with the down-home hospitality of the people of Whitehall.

Rest of the day was just chilling out, playing with the grand kids and some TV.

We called it an early night.
