May 2 – A Week to Rest in Whitehall, Michigan

Chicago Skyline

Dreary, cold and dangerous Chicago

Got up this morning to high tail it out of town, destination “Whitehall, MI”.

We will be staying with Greg, who is my daughter’s husband’s dad. Got that?
The trip down, around and up the shores of Lake Michigan was great for the most part, except for the nightmare drivers and traffic of Chicago. It is now at the very top of my list as most dangerous and worse city to drive in. If you are driving in Chicago, you had best be on top of your game and be able to make split second decisions and reaction time be fine tuned. That is one scary ass place to deal with. Construction directions are confusing, drivers are beyond the realm of aggressive, roads are in desperate need of repairs, infrastructure must have been laid out by a toddler and driver rudeness prevails. I was extremely grateful that we came out on the other side unscathed.

Once again we are able to enjoy the benefits of having an extended family. We have a lot of fun together and just like hanging out with Greg and his girlfriend Michelle. Cool people, right up our ally.
We are going there to see them, but to also give Han’s knee time to rest and hopefully heal before our trip to Europa.
That’s why for the most part we have not been doing much as far as excursions but we were able to double date with a dinner and movie. Good thing is that spring has arrived in this area of the country, which turns nature into an absolute blast.
Greg and Han have been rocking out some in the basement as they are both great musicians and singers. I used that time to catch up on some of my favorite TV shows and work.
I was able to see 38 little chicks in the hen house. I try not to think about what will be their destiny in a short period of time.

Michelle showed me how to shoot her cross bow. I hit the target but I also hit my forearm (which is fairly common) with the line. It slapped me a good one and left a big red welt. I laughed through it all because it really was funny. I was thankful that my arm was not bare and once was enough for me.
We have been super lazy and it was just what the doctor ordered for us both after “trucking” through 22 states so far.
My only disappointment was to find our favorite lunch place “Lipkas Old Fashion Soda Fountain” being closed, while it was supposed to be open. It apparently caught many patrons off guard as they walked up to the door, where it only said: closed. Wonder what happened?
Tomorrow 05/03/16 our journey continues to Willoughby OH, right outside Cleveland,Ohio, to visit our dear friends Amy and Jeff and spend some time with Han’s great passion: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
