April 25 – Catching Up with Dave and Mom Pat

DSC_2226Today we checked out late from the motel in Lake Geneva, drove around some so Han could take pictures, drove into Twin Lakes to see our friends lake front cottage (it is beautiful) and then began our very short trip into Kenosha, Wisconsin.
For old times sake, as I had previously lived in Kenosha for 11 years, we stopped at the Brat Stop to have lunch.
Not the best restaurant if you don’t eat meat. We both had Caesar Salad and shared a side of fries. The fries may well  be the best in the world.

After lunch we drove around memory lane to look at my previous homes and marveled at the extreme change of the surroundings. I barely recognized anything and it proves that time never stands still. It also proves that not all change is good.

Han’s knee was hurting more than ever, even when not walking, so we went in search of an urgent care office. Either the lines were hours long or staff was short. We finally ended up in Racine. Dave (will explain him later) came to the office and we sat and chatted while Han got checked out. The final verdict was that his knee most likely will have to be operated on when we get to Europe. They gave him some medication for swelling and pain and he needs to take it easy to not further aggravate it. Considering the pain he is experiencing, we plan to stay a week in Whitehall, Michigan with David’s dad Greg to see if the pain gets any better.

Back to Dave.
Dave is an ex-husband, yet we all get along famously. Han and he enjoy playing music together, and did so as a duo in Florida when Dave stayed with us. His mom’s name is Pat, but we all call her “mom”. We are a beautifully blended happy family and we actually came to Racine just to see them.

They have visited and stayed with us in Florida on a few occasions. I wish more people could truly let go of past grievances due to break-ups and learn to appreciate the person you once loved in a different capacity. I am glad that Dave is still part of my family and it makes our children (youngest three) very thankful.

Dave, Han and I had some coffee while waiting for pain prescriptions to be processed, then we figured on a time to meet up at mom’s house for dinner, checked into our hotel, then went back over to visit with mom and Dave. They treated us to dinner at the Charcoal Grill and afterwards we went back to her home to visit some more and have dessert.
It was getting late so we sadly hugged them good-bye and went back to the hotel to snuggle in for another unexpectedly cold night. The temperature dropped to below 40° and this is already late April.
