Meet a real life Dr. Doolittle

DSC_0228Sunday, Valentine’s Day 2016 – Maranda (my eldest child) is a real life Dr.Doolittle. She has had a zoo of animals all her adult life and lately has been participating in endurance races with her horses. I wanted to spend some time with her and talk about her passion of horses, so I watched as she tried to teach patience to the new young four year old Arab.

Mmmm….I will not be doing that again! I simply do not know how to describe it, but it was much more intense than expected, and I was left crying my eyes out because I am overly sensitive to any beings suffering, even if it is necessary for training them correctly. Horses have always made me kinda nervous anyway, but when she let the two adult horses out while training the four year old, and then Tripp (one of the six dogs) was running amuck with the horses playing tag, it became too nerve wrecking chaotic for me. And when the young horse jumped at Maranda, I became scared for her safety too.

Well I hate to admit it, but I ended up closing myself in the horse stall and finally got enough courage to make a mad dash for the backyard gate. I truly feared the adult horses would think I was playing a game too and come chase me. I came running into the house and Steve (Maranda’s husband) went to go check on her, while Han talked to me until I calmed down.

I am not going into detail about the whole scene because I don’t want to have to think about it that deeply, but just know that no one was hurt and I will not be riding a horse like as previously planned.

Maranda came in later and we sat and chatted. We are both extreme animal lovers but she really is a “Dr. Doolittle.”

The rest of the evening was spent just relaxing and eating dinner. Maranda is an amazing cook and everyone REALLY loved her homemade chicken pot pie and biscuits. I ate a salad and a bowl of incredibly yummy sautéed vegetables that she made special for me. The “Patty Pan” squash which I had never even heard of, was the best I have ever tasted.

Dessert was cream cheese frosted devils food cake. Yep, we are being spoiled.
