August 14 Travel Day To Venice

Room with a view in Venice

Room with a view in Venice

If you notice me not writing on some dates, those are just travel days. Not particularly eventful to note. Jump on bus, jump off bus for snack, jump on bus, occasionally wish the driver would slow down, speed up, stop talking non-stop, be a little friendlier, have more leg room, wish other riders take more showers and etc. You get the drift, right? LOL

By the time we arrive at our hotel, we just need some stretching and relaxation time.
Today was no different, except we had to lug our luggage 3/4 a mile through the streets of Venice, up and over multiple bridges and it was very hot out. While Han was taking over two pieces of the luggage over a bridge, this lovely young man (have to say he was American) came along and just picked one up and carried it over for us. How sweet was that?
My own travel hint that I will abide by next time? Pack your clothes, then take only half of what you “think” you need.
Overpacking makes traveling miserable at times and I have barely worn a 1/4 of what I bought.

Travel Hint: Laundries are never far away and the service is less than if you washed them yourselves in the states. Han took at least 14 lbs and paid Euro 8.
It is not easy finding your way through Venice, even with a map. Honestly the map is way more confusing than it should be. Reason why any time you ask a local for directions he takes you to the street and points directions with his hands, entirely dismissing the map.
Our dinner was a couple of apples a piece from the breakfast buffet. Too tired to go out.
The room was great, had old world charm, faced a canal, lovely scenery, nice staff and cold AC. However, I am fairly sure that the mattress was so old that Napoleon may have once slept on it. We had a good laugh about it.
The bathroom was sizable. Finally a shower you can actually turn around in and not jab yourself. Ah, it’s the little things in life.
Note that you can hear every single thing going on in the next couple of rooms beside you, so if complete quiet is what you are after, this may not be the place to choose. Sadly the phone did not work when we needed to call due to a couple who LOUDLY arrived back at 2:00am, proceeded to rearrange the room I think, then have loud “I want everyone else to hear how great we are” sex. LOL
The website somewhat oversells what is actually true.
My noise machine has died and not purchasing another one, so kinda miserable without it.
One cool item to mention is the “people mover” that delivers you to the waterfront, then you cross one bridge and ta-da you are in Venice. No cars, no bicycles, only boats of all kinds. It is truly lovely being able to walk the streets and not have to dodge either one above.
Mosquitos, beware! Keep your windows closed if you can, otherwise you will be bug food. Water and sun builds humidity which these critters love and Venice has both in supersized format.
