Day 7- Oh Baby, Don’t Say Maybe

Petrified woodDay 7 – March 19, 2016
Woke up to a quiet morning in the hotel as most people were sleeping in after an evening of drinking and gambling.
As we were having breakfast, the casino experienced a power outage. Strange because I have only spent the night at one other casino years ago in Winsconsin and guess what…. it also had a power outage. I guess someone is trying to tell me something. wink
On the way to Winslow AZ, about 30 miles east of Holbrook, we saw something of interest and decided to change our route to include the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. I really love this about our trip, in that we can be so spontaneous.

We took a beautiful, stunning, amazing, wonderful and worthwhile 28 mile drive through the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. Everywhere you look there was a new and dramatically different landscape. It literally changed by the minute. There were many places to get out to walk and explore from an old Indian Village to Petroglyphs and magnificent petrified wood.

By the way, I asked about AAA or senior discount and learned that they give you half off or more if you are 62 and older. Han is, so he received a National Parks Lifetime Pass discount card right at the entrance. Instead of $20 admission we only paid $10 and he got the card, that we can now use at all other National Parks locations. It pays to ask about discounts and if you have to and are thankfully over 62, you might as well get the benefits for hanging in there. lol
Our next stop was Winslow AZ. I am fairly sure this is the stop that Han was happiest about during our trip so far. It was so cute to watch him be all excited and I find it precious. It was actually really cool and quite fun. He bought a T-shirt, which he hardly ever does. This one reads on the back: C’mon Baby….Don’t Say Maybe.
On the other hand, the old town part that once was a major stop on historic Route 66, could really use a facelift these days.
An hour after Winslow, we rolled into Flagstaff, found our hotel, had some dinner, discussed high altitude (we have a room on the 2nd floor, no elevator) and almost passed the hell out with carrying all our stuff upstairs. It does not take much to get winded above 7,000 feet up.
Goodnight, I am in need of some serious sleep.
