Dropping south from the Michigan rainy cold, we were looking forward to a delightful warmer stay in Nashville Tennessee.
Our one highlight of this traveling day was that we took the time to stop at the French Bakery in Berrien Springs off Highway 31 and had a divine lunch and a French baguette to-go. https://www.facebook.com/Baguette-de-France-of-Berrien-Springs-166193277292/
We had visited once before by ‘accident’ last year and it turned out to be just as good this second time.
Not wanting to rush out we had decided to make the trip to Nashville a two day event, rather than hurrying down Interstates trying to make it before nightfall.
So instead we spent a relaxing night in Franklin IN, just south of Indianapolis, then continued south to Nashville in the morning down Interstate 65. What we notice more and more is that US interstates these days have more tractor-trailers than regular passenger cars on the road, reason why we are trying to avoid them whenever and wherever we can, especially when you know that truck drivers are just as prone to the seductions of the mobile phone, as regular drivers. Very dangerous.
I am fairly sure we barely got our stuff unloaded out of the car, when Kay and I went off in search of treasure shopping. She took me to one of her favorite stores. There were so many things I could not resist and most were half off. We always have a great time together.
We all just hang out and never make particular plans, but one thing we definitely did this time was to leave the guys behind when going shopping. Han and Ric went to the Country Music Hall of Fame while Kay and I ran the streets looking for bargains and ate some excellent Lebanese food for lunch.
Of course we had to make the trek out to Leiper’s Fork on Saturday and have lunch at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant while listening to some great music. They always have different bands performing and this one I enjoyed more than most. This time we were joined for lunch by Kelly and Hal, longtime friends of Ric and Kay, who had been eager to catch up with us as well.
We shopped around some while the guys chilled out on one of the side benches and watched the country world go by. Leiper’s Fork is home to a growing number of Country music stars such as Tim and Faith McGraw, Kid Rock, Keith Urban and others, so on a sunny Saturday you will witness lots of people coming out to catch a glimpse.
Ric and Kay have decided to stay in Nashville and I have to admit I am happy about that because it is such a unique place to visit and their home is beautiful and welcoming.
We all spent a lot of quality time together, always have an amazing time, but on Sunday April 9 it was time again to load up the car and head south to Ft. Walton Beach Florida to visit my high school friend “Donna”.
We were dog tired by the time we got to Ft. Walton. It is quite a ways off the interstate and the winding back roads through towns like Andalusia take like forever.
Han only spent one night, as he needed to get back to work and Donna and I had previously made plans to go on a short trip north.
April 10th:
I hugged my sweetheart good-bye and wished him safe travels.
Donna had to still work and do errands, so I hung out at the house with the dog while she was busy, but we still had plenty of time to run around to some stores and eat out when time allowed. One of the days I cleaned one of her huge condo’s, to have something to do and earn a little money. I was worn slap out and declined anymore work. LOL
She said I did a great job, so I was happy to hear that.
Donna owns a commercial cleaning business in Ft. Walton and is quite successful.
