Monday 02/08/16 to 02/10/16
We safely and happily arrived in New Orleans because the wind was horrendous on the way down. Made us all the more thankful to see Brian and Nancie, hugged them a whole bunch, talked excitedly while drinking wine then went out to grab some sushi.
The rest of the evening was for relaxing because tomorrow is the exciting day of Mardi Gras.
Fat Tuesday on a Float
February 9 – Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras! How Best To Describe It?
Our friends Brian and Nancie kindly financed our way for one of the best, funniest, laughter inducing times we have had for longer than I can remember. It was totally what the doctor ordered after wearing ourselves out as Innkeepers.
Morning came early, coffee was next, no time for breakfast, sandwiches and snack food was packed to go, drove to the float staging area, got our faces painted as skeletons, waited for the police to direct us, wind was blowing hard, load our excited bodies onto the float (we ended up being the caboose), took a quick pee-pee in the float outhouse type structure, lined up for the parade, waved at people along the way, stayed in formation for quite a bit while the first float began the parade, went into Rite Aid for extra snacks and another bathroom break and saw that they sold liquor, bought two bottles of Tequila and OJ, had a few bites of food, then it is finally time to climb the ladder back onto the float to experience the most amazing, enjoyable mayhem that I have ever known!!!
Beads, stuffed animals, panties, footballs, voodoo dolls, candy and more were being thrown from the float. We all passed around the Tequila and found out quickly that glasses and OJ were not even needed.
Most people were very cool but one time when I was trying to exchange a set of beads with someone, I received theirs, then handed mine down but some uncool person came along and did a “snatch, grab and run.”
I totally enjoyed dancing to the music that we had blaring too. I was shaking my tail feathers quite a bit. LOL
I was impressed with myself too that I hit 9 out of my 10 target throws. (should have played softball more) I made some people work for the beads. I was more than comfortable in my element and our friend Brian said, “that I was meant for Mardi Gras.” Could not agree more. It went by far too fast and they say that pics are worth a thousand words, so here they are and you be the judge.
Heading back to the staging area at 60mph on an open float was bone chilling, I obviously did not drive, the hot tub at home was nice and bedtime was 6:30 for Brian and I. Nancy and Han stayed up and had dinner. I should have but I was literally fried. So was my pitching arm for the next couple of days as I would soon find out.
Ash Wednesday:
We stayed home, home, home. It was totally a day for rest and recuperating. We attempted to make plans, but it went no further than talking. I am fairly assured we were all relieved and happy to stay home.
