Nashville offers more than just BBQ

In-N-Out Burger in Lebanon,TN

After completing our last season as managers at the Beaver Island Lodge, we visited a friend of ours in Brentwood TN, a suburb of Nashville, for almost a month in Dec/Jan of 2026.

There are so many amazing restaurants near her home, that we did not have to venture far to experience something new and delicious.
These are just “a few of our favorite things”.
We eat here at least a couple of times on every visit.
Even though I am not a full-time vegetarian, one of the best dishes is Gobi (cauliflower) Chilli.
It is considered an appetizer, but it was enough to make two meals for me, along with an order of
Garlic Naan. Don’t forget to ask for some Yogurt Cucumber Sauce for dipping. Unfortunately they do not feature the luncheon sampler platter anymore, which had been our favorite menu item.
To be blunt, the reviews from others are very lacking, but the three of us were impressed with our first visit.
Han had the Thai Coconut Curry Chicken which he completely enjoyed and they do not skimp on serving sizes. Our friend and I tried the Poke Bowls. She got hers as normally prepared, but I asked for mine without spring mix and cilantro. We both had leftovers for the next day, and it was just as delicious as the first day. My suggestion is to also ask for brown rice, instead of white. I might get some eye rolls about this, but I have had a poke bowl on the Big Island (Hawaii) and I quite enjoyed this one more.
One of the “best value for your money” restaurants also.
Whatever you order, you can’t go wrong. The Shawarma Platters are generous, foodie approved and the price point makes it definitely worth the trip.
Another Greek restaurant is the Mediterranean Cuisine:
A bit pricier than the one above for an order at the counter, self serve restaurant.
Han and I both brought leftovers home, however we did order more than just entrees.
We each ordered the “Sampler Platter”, and when it arrives you don’t know where to start with so many
options and flavors. Our falafel appetizer may have been the best I have eaten.
Leiper’s Fork
Ten years ago, in 2016, we spent several Saturday afternoons at Pucketts in Leiper’s Fork, about a 20 minute drive south of Brentwood. The little village is well known to people in the Nashville Music World as many country stars have their estates in an around the village. Even rockers like Brad Whitford of Aerosmith fame and Kid Rock resided here. Leonard Cohen stayed in the village in the early sixties before recording his first album. So did Bob Dylan. We enjoyed having a country buffet type lunch and live music at Puckett’s which was sold to original founder (1947) and regional food operator Fox & Locke, just a couple of years ago. While the live music and their Thursday evening Songwriters Open Mike night are still of world class, their food quality, which is now served table site, unfortunately is not anymore.
Lebanon, TN
Then the restaurant I had been looking forward to the entire time in the area was: “In-N-Out” Partly due to reminiscing of childhood visits, to wanting to try the “animal fries” that the cast on Californication could not get enough of. I had never eaten them before and you have to ask for them since
they are not on the menu. I had hoped the excitement in TN would have calmed down but when we pulled up, there were approximately 10 traffic guards just directing the  car traffic. (insert our “oh” face here) LOL
Han is not a stand-in-line kinda person, but he did this for me, albeit with a few complaints.
We have never, ever seen so many workers behind any one counter and we travel a lot. How do they get anything done with dodging each other constantly?
While Han waited for the food, I scouted for a table. Not as easy as it looks with people standing EVERYWHERE, waiting and staring like vultures to swoop in. Bars are not even this crowded! I
prevailed and then offered a mom and her two young daughters to join us. They were all so delightful and it
made the food all the better to share it with others. Han had the Double-Double & fries meal and I had the Single Burger with Animal Fries. I shared some of my fries with Han and he admitted that the food was worth the wait this time. Now I am sitting here craving more In-N-Out, but we are too far away. I will sign off for now so I can go and pout a smidgen.
