We had planned a whole week with our dear friends Ric and Kay, but a winterstorm named Jonas was theatening to blanket the land from south of us to Indianapolis and beyond to the east. We saw it coming in on Thursday morning, so we took off just hours before it would hit Nashville.

Sunday the 17th: was spent as a lazy winter day of reading, snacking, TV and napping. We stayed up very late the night before playing “Cards Against Humanity” and may have enjoyed a little too much wine. lol

Monday the 18th: The four of us drove into town for some sightseeing and lunch.
It was simply too cold to get out and walk for long, but we managed short excursions to The Parthenon and Vanderbilt College.
Then lunch at the International Market and Restaurant where they serve up the ultimate Thai food cafeteria-style. You can also order from a menu. All very affordable and delicious. Check them out and tell the sweet owner we say “hello.”

Tuesday the 19th: Kay and I decided we needed a girl’s day out, so we left the guys and took off to The Mall at Green Hills.
We had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory because Kay had never eaten there, and she was amazed at the menu choices. The Mall is two stories and I noticed that the higher end stores were on the upper level.
I purchased items completely out of the norm for this “beach” girl of scarves, wool socks, hats and gloves. Found some great deals at The Gap. Try Gap Kids if you are petite. I found matching gloves, hat and a scarf combo for only $10.35.

Wednesday the 20th: Just another chill relaxed day at the house because the roads were too slippery to venture out. We decided that tomorrow would be a better day to explore, but…..

Change of Travel Plans

Thursday the 21th: Jonas decided to change our plans. Woke up to the hubby studying the weather, which lead to a discussion of quickly exiting before getting snowed in for several more days. Jonas was on the way to drop some major white stuff, so I had a quick cup of coffee, quickly packed, hugged our friends good-bye and set out on our next adventure.

Our plans also had to be changed from staying over in Richmond KY to visit my little brother, as that would have been in the heart of the snow storm. Then we planned on going to Ohio to visit some friends in Clveland but she came down with the flu, so next stop became Michigan to visit family and friends.

If you are traveling anytime soon from Nashville to Indianapolis, avoid I-65 due to massive amounts of construction.
We made it to the other side of Indianapolis, got on US-31 going north to Michigan, but decided it was time to rest for the evening and stopped at the nicest Holiday Inn Express & Suites (Carmel North-Westfield) we have ever stayed at. Beautifully decorated, appointed, comfortable and clean, with indoor pool and gym.

The coolest thing was I saw was a fox running across the snow, from our fourth floor window. Of course every so often I would look to try and catch another glimpse and maybe shoot a picture. It didn’t happen.

Obvious lesson

Road Travel in wintertime requires being alert of the weather forecast and the ability to make quick decisions that can keep you out of harm’s way. If we would have stayed the additional planned day, we would have been ‘stuck’ in 14 inches of snow for the next four days.
